Celling Your Soul A Project of Filmmakers Collaborative Current Projects

About this film:

In one short decade, we have totally changed the way we interact with one another.
The millennial generation, the first to be socialized in a digital world, is now feeling the unintended consequences.
Celling Your Soul is a powerful and informative expression of how our young people actually feel about connecting in the digital world and our love/hate relationship with technology.

There's no doubt we love our shiny sleek devices and our digital toys of infinite entertainment and 24/7 connectivity. However, as we have been enamored and enthralled with the awe inspiring mechanics of our phones with never ending potential of apps for everything, our authentic emotional needs have been put on the back-burner and ignored to the point where we are feeling drained and depleted.

No one has been more affected by the swift changes in the way we interact with one another more then the digital natives...and the natives are restless. Research now shows a population with an exponential increase in stress, anxiety, depression, attention deficit and obsessive-compulsive behavior who are the most technically advanced yet have become a more socially awkward generation.

Celling Your Soul is based on the work of Media and Communication Scholar Joni Siani. Siani's work and education in media literacy, communication and psychology has been the foundation for this solution-based project that focuses on balanced and authentic human connectivity within the digital landscape.

For 10 years Siani has been keenly observing the behavior and more importantly questioning teens and young adults about how they are adapting to the digital demands of our culture. As everyone was saying, "this is so cool" she was asking "but how does it make you feel?" Siani and her students discovered some disturbing unintended consequences and set out to challenge the new social norms. Together, they found empowering solutions to.

The documentary Celling Your Soul boldly examines the effects of "digital socialization" by taking viewers on a personal journey with a group of high school and college students who discover the power of authentic human connectivity and how there is "No App" or piece of technology that can ever replace the benefits of human connection.

This documentary is currently being used in a grass-roots project to address the social crisis of the over use and mis use of cell phones in schools. Research shows incidents of middle school kids "sexting" is now one in five. School administrators, teachers and parents are looking for answers. Celling Your Soul is the first step to elevating the conversation about the root causes of the current issues. Combined with workshops, lectures and educational materials, Celling Your Soul is already changing lives.

We are currently seeking $50,000 in order to complete and polish this film for national distribution and edit several versions so it can be used directly in schools within certain time blocks. We're also using these funds to cover the costs of providing educational programs at schools.
