About this film:
DIRECTOR: Anne Barliant
Beyond the End of the World is a feature length documentary about Sarajevo's first international film festival, held in 1993 during the height of Europe's longest modern siege. Today the group of intrepid artists who hosted this seemingly impossible event continues to struggle against the ethnic divisions born in the aftermath of war. Using animation, archival footage, interviews and verité footage, Beyond the End of the World brings to life an incredible effort that involved Hollywood celebrities, international smuggling, and ordinary citizens risking their lives to go to the movies. It weaves this history with the modern day struggle of individuals trying to work as artists in a country where peace has yet to bring resolution. Can they once again overcome forces that wish to tear apart their city?
